SSTOM Spotlight – Daniel Pereda, Communications Project Manager

Daniel Pereda, Communications Project Manager, is helping deliver critical systems for the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport project.

Daniel began his career 16 years ago in rail, working in Madrid and Paris before making the move to Australia. Here, he took on project management roles in major infrastructure initiatives including systems engineering on the Sydney Light Rail project and signalling and communications management on the Parramatta Light Rail project. These experiences naturally led him to his current role on SSTOM.

“My experience in Madrid and Paris provided me with a strong foundation in rail systems,” Daniel explains. “Moving to Australia opened the door to project management opportunities that combined technical complexity with real-world impact.”

Daniel’s passion for rail stems from the role these systems play in shaping modern cities. He’s particularly drawn to the multidisciplinary nature of projects like SSTOM and the integration of communication and control systems that underpin safe and efficient transport.

“Rail systems are at the heart of how people move and connect. Being involved in building those systems is incredibly rewarding,” he says.

As Communications Project Manager, Daniel oversees the delivery of communication systems, ensuring everything meets project milestones, budgets, and technical specifications. His role involves close coordination with suppliers, driving the team towards shared objectives, and keeping everything on track for successful delivery.

One of the biggest challenges in his role is balancing the needs of a wide range of stakeholders while managing technical, commercial, and operational requirements. His approach is centred on clear communication, structured planning, and making sure the team remains aligned and focused on shared priorities.

Looking ahead, Daniel hopes to continue contributing to major transport infrastructure and take on leadership roles within the NSW infrastructure sector. He’s excited by the future of the rail industry and the opportunity to help shape its evolution through innovative, connected systems.

Daniel’s leadership and knowledge are key to ensuring the seamless integration of communication systems across the project. We’re grateful for his contributions and proud to have him as part of the team delivering this important piece of Western Sydney’s future.
